Visual Rhetoric – a UAL / LSE Collaboration

Visual Rhetoric is a collaboration between the LSE and UAL (LCC) with a recently designed and launched public presence available at www.visualrhetoric.ac.uk. This fascinating knowledge exchange project brings together designers and researchers from the social sciences, arts and humanities.

Together with Technical Developer Sat Anandhan, I have been involved in UAL’s Online Assessment Tool (‘OAT’) project since its inception.

Improving your Prospects through Online Profiles

Improving your prospects through online profilesOn the 15th November at LCC I had the pleasure of taking part in a SEE Event held as part of Enterprise Week entitled ‘Improving your prospects through online profiles’.

This brought together 6 speakers and a lively audience comprising mainly UAL students and alumni to debate and explore ways in which online profiles can be beneficial – as well as reviewing the potential pitfalls and how to avoid and recover from them. Exploring, understanding and addressing the appetite for change

I recently presented a short paper at the Learning Technology Conference Alt-C 2012 entitled ‘Exploring, understanding and addressing the appetite for change’.

This was the result of a collaboration between Marc Griffith and myself and explored the changes taking place in the e-learning and online environments at UAL.

Online Assessment Tool (OAT) – update

OATI recently had the pleasure of talking to LCF’s Graduate School about the Online Assessment Tool (which has quickly become known as ‘OAT’).  This CLTAD developed tool is still a work in progress but is available for those tutors who request that it is embedded within their Blackboard course(s) (it will also be available via Moodle when we move from Blackboard to Moodle).

OAT is proving very popular as a look at the usage statistics indicates. Currently (as of 20-4-12) the tool is available to 86 courses and has been used to provide feedback and grading to students submitting work across 220 assessments. This translates into 6821 separate instances of grading/feedback, of which 4618 have been published to date. So far, 131 tutors have provided grading feedback using OAT and 3646 students have received at least 1 instance of feedback in this way.
