UAL Learning and Teaching Conference 2019

Learning and Teaching Day 2019I attended and presented at the UAL Learning and Teaching Conference 2019.  It was held at London College of Communication on 21 March 2019. The theme which ran throughout the conference was  ‘Wellbeing’.

My session (a “provocation”) explored potential tensions between Open Education / Practice and individual privacy and “wellbeing” in various forms – especially digital.  The short description on the conference website has additional details and links to  materials used.

This year not just attending, enjoying and being inspired by the sessions on the day, I will also be co-presenting a session with Cara Lee Roth – Evaluating Student Experience in Industry Projects.

Visual Rhetoric – a UAL / LSE Collaboration

Visual Rhetoric is a collaboration between the LSE and UAL (LCC) with a recently designed and launched public presence available at www.visualrhetoric.ac.uk. This fascinating knowledge exchange project brings together designers and researchers from the social sciences, arts and humanities.

Improving your Prospects through Online Profiles

Improving your prospects through online profilesOn the 15th November at LCC I had the pleasure of taking part in a SEE Event held as part of Enterprise Week entitled ‘Improving your prospects through online profiles’.

This brought together 6 speakers and a lively audience comprising mainly UAL students and alumni to debate and explore ways in which online profiles can be beneficial – as well as reviewing the potential pitfalls and how to avoid and recover from them. ‘Bar Camp’ @ LCC

I took part in the Learning Studio’s inaugural ‘Bar Camp’ event held @ LCC last week – Thursday 10th February. This was an informal, informative and very enjoyable event where practitioners from all over UAL shared their expertise and experience of using a variety of media in their teaching and learning. This included: the use of streaming video (in this case using simple Flip cams for filming); the Process Arts website – http://process.arts.ac.uk; Jackson Jessop’s website which houses a wealth of useful information about video production – http://www.thekitroom.net; production and distribution of screencasts using tools such as Camtasia, Jing and Camstudio; production and use of audio material; online publishing – using platforms such as Issuu http://issuu.com/. All very useful stuff with plenty of opportunities for peer-to-peer learning, kinesthetic learning – and having fun!
